Course Overview

This course is intended for the highly motivated student who is seriously interested in furthering his or her education in art. Students must work above and beyond the high school classroom and will be assigned a summer project. Students must submit a complete portfolio at the beginning of May to the College Board Jury Panel which evaluates their work based upon one of three declared portfolio majors: Drawing, Two-Dimensional Design and Three-Dimensional Design.

Develop a completed portfolio and submit it to the College Board Jury Panel.

Grading

The student’s artwork will be graded using various rubrics that measure the overall aesthetic quality of artwork completed: creativity, originality, craftsmanship, technique,understanding of classroom materials and equipment, effort- ability to respond to the assignments and to the given tasks, meeting deadlines and proof that the student takes pride in their work. The student will be graded not only on their final pieces, but also their sketches and writing. Class participation,enthusiasm, willingness to ask questions and share ideas, and the student’s attitude will also factor into their grade for this course.  By the beginning of May the student is expected to have a completed portfolio to submit to the College Board Jury Panel.
