The staff at Salem High School has found that students who involve themselves in extracurricular activities are often happier and more successful students. Salem High School offers a wide variety of opportunities including: academic and service clubs, music and drama activities, and sports. Please take the time to review the activities below with your child and select those activities that appeal to him/her.

The following are clubs and activities students may be interested in to round out their high school education.
Art Club
|
meets to explore art and produce art projects that can be shared with the school
and community
|
Best Buddies
|
Best Buddies is a program that matches up special needs students with regular
education students to participate in recreational and community excursions to build
friendships.
|
College Bowl
|
an activity that is very similar to the game show Jeopardy, four member teams
compete in four rounds, with seven meets each year against 11 high schools
on the North Shore
|
Color Guard
|
performs in exhibitions at school, national festivals, and local state and
national color guard shows, fall and winter
|
Dance Team
|
A hip hop/step dance team that would potentially perform in the school talent show,
Senior Show, pep rally and recitals as well as participate in competitions
|
Drama Club
|
performs one major production per year, smaller productions may
be performed for the school population
|
Embrace
|
group open to all students to promote tolerance and understanding of
persity within the school and community
|
Environmental Club
|
A group that meets biweekly to prepare for envirothon, organize igreeni events,
And oversee developing school and community projects
|
Fall Color Guard
|
A drill team that performs at football games during half time and competes locally and nationally
|
French Club
|
for students interested in the French language, people, and culture who
are currently taking French
|
Games Club
|
Students participate in playing board, computer and game system games.
|
Girls Football
|
a flag football team of senior girls to challenge a team of Beverly players
prior to the annual Thanksgiving Game (seniors only)
|
Harvard Model
Congress
|
a mock legislative assembly run by Harvard students in Boston during February
vacation and an opportunity to participate in a nation a wide congress
|
Interact Club
|
a high school branch of Rotary International that meets with local Rotarians to
explore job options, participate in community service events and are offered the opportunity to spend a year studying in a foreign country
|
Jazz Band
|
performs at school concerts and state and national music festivals, only for students in of the S.H.S. Band with the exception of those instruments not covered by band (bass
guitar, piano, et al)
|
La Union Latina
|
a club involved in fund raising and social events to benefit members of the club
|
Literary Magazine
|
students produce literary works and select from other studentsi work, stories,
poems, art work, etc., to publish a yearly magazine, The Advance
|
Marching Band
|
performs at football games, school programs, city and state civic functions
and participates in exhibitions
|
Math Team
|
an intellectual and social experience for students interested in math, with
monthly meets against other schools
|
Mock Trial
|
for students interested in learning about law, while improving their public
speaking and acting skills; students act out parts of attorneys and witnesses
in competition with other school groups

National History
Club
|
A club to promote reading, writing, discussion and enjoyment of history among
high school students and participating in activities that deepen their appreciation
of our local, national and global past
|
National Honor
Society
|
membership is an honor bestowed upon a student, selection if made by a faculty
council and is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service
|
National Art Honor
Society
|
membership is an honor bestowed upon a student based on academic
achievement and artistic interest and ability
|
Percussion
Ensemble
|
performs at school concerts, in the New England Scholastic Band Circuit, and at
national events open by audition only to students in the Band
|
Photography Club
|
learn how to use a camera, develop your own film, and print your own
photographs
|
Physics Club
|
weekly meetings to prepare for competitions on physics, engineering, and design
|
Poetry Club
|
Students write, create, and create all forms of poetry/writing
|
Rachel's Challenge
|
a group dedicated to spreading kindness/ co exists with the embrace club
|
Science Team
|
a team that works together to solve problems, answer questions, design equipment, etc. and compete against other members of the North Shore Science League
|
Senior Show
|
an annual variety show for members of the senior class
|
Ski Club and
Outdoor Activities
|
Open to all students who enjoy outdoor activities such as skiing, snowboarding,
hiking, canoeing, etc
|
Spanish Club
|
for students interested in the Spanish language, people and culture
|
String Orchestra
|
a co-curricular rehearsal for string students that includes weekly practices
(Mondays 6-8 PM), concerts, and civic functions throughout the year
|
Tri-M Music Honor Society
|
this society recognizes students who have maintained an A average in their
music courses, a B average or better in all their other courses, and have
participated in at least 3 years as part of a performing ensemble: membership by
application and approval of faculty council
|
Witches Brew
|
the school newspaper - students learn reporting, editing, and production skills
and produce quarterly editions of the newspaper
|
Yearbook
|
a staff comprised of students learning yearbook production and completing the
tasks to produce a yearbook
|
