Senior Year

Putting Plans into Motion

All seniors will participate in an in school workshop in early October. During this time the counseling staff will review the responsibilities of the student (family) and the counselor (school) in the moving on process.

Topics that will be covered include:

  • Graduation requirements for all students
  • Student Records Law
  • Selective Service obligations
  • Military recruiters
  • Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test
  • Senior Questionnaire
  • Transcripts
  • The Common Application
  • Teacher/Counselor recommendations - timeline
  • Employability after graduation
  • NCAA Clearinghouse requirements for student athletes
  • Early Action / Early Decision / Early Notification meaning and deadlines
  • College visits / SHS absentee policy
  • A brief mention of Scholarships, FAFSA and the College Board's PROFILE; a more in-depth coverage will take place in the evening with parents in December.

At an evening meeting in December with parents and seniors invited, the Guidance Department will present a workshop on all aspects of the Financial Aid Process.

A college financial aid administrator will fully explain the appropriate answers to give to the 85 to 95 questions that are posed on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Parents will be able to ask questions and to make arrangements for more inpidualized attention if such a service is necessary.

The Guidance Staff will explain the appropriate use of the PROFILE Form, and answer all questions about its use.
