Salem High School Athletic Update 2/5/23

Week of 1/29/22 Results: Indoor Track and Field:
Salem High competed in the NEC League meet this weekend. The Boys 4×4 for running a 4:05 which is ran by Austin Ryan,
Raymond Nguyen, Oscar Fernandez and Nathaniel Simons. Oscar Fernandez also got a PR in the 300 running a 41.01. Austin Ryan a PR in the 600 running a 1:35, and Isabella Cunha ran a 48.71 which is also a PR. Great job Witches!

Swimming and Dive:
The swim team had our last dual meet for the season against Beverly last Thursday. The 50 freestylers showed up earning best times of the season! These included Joe Reyes (37.81), Isabelle Duffy (38.56), Axel Reyes (40.13), Linsey Reyes (49.09), and Jayla Tamilio (49.53). Other notable best season swims came from Nathalie Simon in the 200 IM (2.45.65) and Trisna Dewa in the 100 breaststroke (1.43.75). It was a fabulous season with lots of heart and hard work!
Wrestling:
A great day of wrestling at the D2 States Dual Tournament. Salem went 1-2 in the tournament and had a great day of tough wrestling. Concord Carlisle 39-39 L, Holyoke 53-18 W, Silver Lake 38-36 L. Wrestlers who went undefeated on the day were Kevin Spoon, Justice Bower, Shane Field and Alex Rodriguez. Salem finished their dual meet record at 12-5 which is the schools best record in 20 years! Wrestling now looks to the postseason starting with the D2 North Sectional Wrestling tournament hosted at Salem High School this coming weekend!
Girls Basketball:
The Girls beat Chelsea 46-14 on senior night for their first victory of the season! Highlights included: Senior Amayah McConney who had 21 points, 13 rebounds, and 7 steals! Three seniors (Ty Hicks-Elliott, Amayah McConney, Leylani Martinez) combined for 27 points, 27 rebounds, and 12 steals. Our freshmen (Gianna Marotta, Nirvana Castle, and Alyssa Bradley) combined for 10 points. The future is bright!
Boys Basketball:
The Boys went 2-0 this week to move to 9-3 on the season and they clinched their berth into the state tournament! Highlights of the week are Devante Ozuna with 14 points vs Saugus, Brayson Green had 2 great games with 23 and 29 points, Jack Doyle with 2 good games with 13 points vs Peabody and 13 assists vs Saugus, Chris Qirjazi played 2 solid games, Corey Grimes 12 points 9 rebs vs Saugus, and Rocco Ryan had great minutes vs Peabody

Salems Co-Op with Lynn finished the week with a game where the score did not reflect the relentless effort, physicality and team play vs Pentucket
